Fiscal Sponsorship
Let us handle your nonprofit’s administration, so you can focus on your mission.
What is Fiscal Sponsorship?
Thank you for considering fiscal sponsorship with United Way of Southwest Colorado!
We are excited to learn more about your organization and how a partnership may further both our missions and benefit our community as a whole.
We know the term “fiscal sponsorship” can be confusing and may mean different things from different sponsors. Fiscal Sponsorship with UWSWC is a complete and comprehensive solution that lets your organization concentrate on fundraising and impact, while we take care of everything else!
That means your organization will not be burdened with learning or managing accounting, human resources, taxes, and/or regulatory compliance. Let us focus on that, so you can focus on your mission.
The services we provide will be tailored to your organization’s specific needs. But generally, you can expect to receive:
Comprehensive bookkeeping and accounting (includes regular and on-demand financial reporting)
Payroll processing
Medical, dental, vision and paid time off offered to your qualified staff
Tax reporting and filing
General Liability and Workman’s Comp insurance coverage
Assistance with grant applications
Grant tracking
Donation processing and donor acknowledgement

FAQ
Q: Do I need my own EIN?
A: No. Under our fiscal sponsorship, your organization will become a “project” of UWSWC. That means you will use our EIN whenever promoted for this number. This also means you do not need to do any tax filings of your own.
Q: Do I need to register with the Secretary of State?
A: No. For your own business purposes, you may want to. But we do not require it.
Q: How will our finances be kept separate from yours?
A: In most cases, we will open a separate, joint bank account with your organization for which all of your income and expenses will flow through. We will keep a separate set of QuickBooks for your organization for easy reporting and tracking as well.
Q: What sort of fee do you charge?
A: The type of fiscal sponsorship we offer is called Model A. With this type of sponsorship, your organization receives the most hands-on support of all the models. This inherently comes more risk and administrative cost to the sponsor (UWSWC). Therefore, there is a 10% administrative fee for all our fiscally sponsored programs so that we can continue to provide the highest-quality support.
Q: What is your application process like?
A: Please complete the narrative questions below and provide the appropriate and applicable documentation as indicated. Once we receive all of your information, we will review internally and determine if partnership seems like a good fit for both you and UWSWC. If so, we will present your application to our Board of Directors for preliminary approval. If approved, we will get together with you to draft our final fiscal sponsorship agreement. Once completed, we will take this back to our Board for final approval and welcome you to the UWSWC family!
Q: Have more questions?
A: Contact UWSWC Vice President of Operations, Elise Savastano, at elises@unitedway-swco.org.
