  • The Southwest Smilemakers Dental Program ~ offers preventive services to eliminate tooth decay in order to help children in low-income families be healthier and more successful in life.

Positive adult-teen relationships and mentoring ~

  • Big Brothers Big Sisters’ ~ community-based mentoring program provides caring adult mentors who serve at-risk youth between ages 6 and 17.

Opportunities for activities that promote academic, physical and emotional growth and development ~

  • Boy Scouts ~ helps youth to achieve their fullest potential by providing youth with the tools necessary to successfully navigate their adolescent years and beyond.

Child care and early education ~

  • Habitat for Humanity of Archuleta County ~ provides access to affordable housing, economic opportunities leading to self-sufficiency, and supportive services that foster independence.

  • Housing Solutions of the Southwest ~ serves the low and fixed-income populations by offering free weatherization services to increase energy efficiency and ensure safe and adequate heating systems.

Supporting Vulnerable & Aging Populations through initiatives that support 

Advocacy for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault ~

  • Archuleta County Victim Assistance Program ~ provides comprehensive advocacy and support services for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, to help stabilize their lives after victimization and to assist them in navigating the justice system.

Caring services to enrich and sustain the elderly ~

  • Archuleta Senior Services ~ enhances the health and well-being of the senior citizen population through a nutritious meal program at congregate meals sites and home-delivered meals, transportation for their activities of daily living, and socialization activities.

Responding to those in Crisis through initiatives that support

Emergency assistance for those in crisis ~  

  • Pagosa Outreach Connection ~ is a collaboration of faith-based, community-based, government and business organizations that work together to provide emergency financial assistance for families and individuals in crisis. 

Planning for and responding to community disasters ~

  • Southwest Colorado Red Cross ~ prepares for and responds to disasters affecting Archuleta County by recruiting and training volunteers and providing relief in emergencies, big and small.

Transitional services to help individuals caught in cycles of abuse ~  

  • The Southwest Safehouse ~ provides comprehensive residential services to women and children survivors of domestic violence.  It is the only residential domestic violence shelter serving all of Southwest Colorado, including Archuleta County.

    Program: Weatherization
    Assists low-income households by reducing energy costs in homes that were previously energy inefficient. Energy costs are reduced by performing energy audits, sealing leaky parts, increasing the amount of insulation, inspecting furnace, identifying gas or propane leaks, and by providing energy conservation and safety classes to the community.

    Program: Housing Counseling/Homeless Prevention
    Assists low-income families in understanding housing programs, accessing emergency mortgage/rent assistance when appropriate, setting housing-related goals and defining action plans to reach those goals. Primary goal is to prepare families for home ownership.

    Program: Disaster Services - Prevention, Preparedness & Relief
    The American Red Cross prepares us for and responds to
    disasters by recruiting and training volunteers, educating the community, collaborating with other community and emergency organizations, and providing relief in emergencies big and small.

    Program: Emergency Shelter
    The Bridge Emergency Shelter provides overnight shelter and a hot meal for homeless men and women from Montezuma and Dolores Counties during the colder months of October through April.  We envision a community where people can access emergency shelter in a manner that  supports their dignity and encourages self-sufficiency.

    Provides one-time emergency financial assistance for families and individuals in crisis. Financial assistance used to help with rent/mortgage payment, utility bills, doctor bills, automotive repairs and other emergencies.

    Program: Crisis Intervention Support Services
    The 24-hour crisis hotline and a confidential office location needed for counseling and advocacy provide a way for women in crisis with domestic violence or sexual assault issues to safely and confidentially seek support.

    Program: Emergency Legal Assistance for Safety

    Since 1996, this program has worked to assist victims of domestic violence in obtaining legal support and advice from a local attorney, trained in the dynamics of domestic violence.

    Program: Crisis Mental Health Services for the Working Poor
    Provides emergency mental health crisis services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  Thorough mental health assessments are conducted to determine the appropriate support for the consumer.  Assessments are conducted at the Center and at Southwest Memorial Hospital in Cortez.

    Provides high-quality, full-day, full-year licensed early care and education for children aged 12 months - 12 years including Head Start and Colorado Preschool Program for school readiness and enrichment programs before/after school and summer for school-age children that promote literacy, social and life skill development.

  • Hospice of Montezuma

    Program: Hospice
    Provides the best possible end-of-life care by assisting with pain control, medical equipment and therapy needs. Care conducted by nursing staff, certified nursing aids, counselors, chaplains and volunteers. Families of patients are also cared for and provided with emotional support services up to a year after the patient’s death.

    Program: Child Passenger Safety Seat Program
    Four distinct car seats for children are provided to low-income families on a sliding scale fee - infant, convertible, combination and booster seats. These seats save lives by keeping a child properly restrained in their vehicle. A certified Car Seat Technician trains parents and caregivers on how to install the seat and how to put the child in it. This is the only
    program of its type in Montezuma County.

    Program: Incredible Years Parenting Program
    Provides twenty-four hours of interactive parent classes for parents of children 2-8 to increase positive parenting strategies and parent/child interactions. Childcare, dinner
    and door prizes are provided to encourage parents to attend regularly.

    Program: Preventative Therapy to Adult Sexual Assault Survivors

    The program aims to help adult survivors of child sexual abuse heal from past abuse and to prevent them from being a victim of abuse as an adult by providing therapy.

    Program: Nurturing Environment for Safe Transitions
    The NEST serves child victims of abuse and their non-offending family members through collaborations with social services, law enforcement, prosecution, victim advocacy, medical and mental health personnel.  The Center provides a safe and nurturing atmosphere that helps the child begin the recovery process and eases the emotional trauma often experienced during the case investigation and prosecution.

    Program: Southwest Safehouse
    The only residential domestic violence shelter in Southwest Colorado. Provides emergency and long-term shelter for women and their children who are escaping domestic violence in their home. Works closely with Renew, Inc. to identify women and children in of this service.

    Program: Nutrition Program for the Elderly, Montezuma County
    Provides services to persons age 60 and over, emphasizing nutrition, education and socialization needs. Group meals are served Monday, Wednesday and Friday in Cortez, Mancos and Dolores. An additional meal is also provided on Tuesday in Cortez. Also delivers meals to homebound seniors, providing a socialization opportunity as well as a
    balanced meal.

  • Dolores County Senior Services Cahone Recreation Center
    Cahone, CO

    Program: Nutrition Program for the Elderly, Dolores County
    Provides services to persons age 60 and over, emphasizing nutrition, education and socialization needs. Group meals are served three days a week at the Cahone Recreation Center in Cahone. Also delivers meals to homebound seniors, providing a socialization opportunity as well as a balanced meal.

    Program: Student Assistance - Montezuma Cortez High School
    The Student Assistance Program supports and augments the counseling department at the high school offering group and individual counseling to students.The SAP program offers 8 groups per week during the school day and served 208 students during the 2006-2007 school year with issues including anger management, communication, trauma, grief/loss, self-mutilation, sellf-esteem and substance abuse issues.

  • Girl Scouts Colorado

    Provides girls age 5-11 with five days of six hour programming at four different sites on scheduled holidays. Helps families by providing safe and affordable activities on days when regular childcare is not offered.

    Provides vouchers to homeless families with children to pay for part of their rent for up to 24 months. Families choose where to live within certain guidelines and are provided
    with support to help them transition to permanent housing and self-sufficiency.

    Program:  Family Literacy Backpack Program
    Provides a library of backpacks of early literacy activities for parents to prepare their children between 3 and 5 years of age.  Trains parents on early literacy projects and activities to improve school readiness.

    Breaks the cycle of child abuse by educating children, parents and school staff on this issue. Workshops are provided to elementary level age groups. Parents and school staff are also trained in identifying child abuse, crisis intervention and follow-up techniques to use with victims of abuse.

    Provides services to persons age 60 and over, emphasizing nutrition, education and socialization needs. Group meals are served in Durango and Bayfield, and meals are delivered to homebound seniors.

    Program: Home Chore
    Enables seniors to live in their homes by creating and maintaining a safe and healthy home. Performs minor home repairs, snow shoveling, heavy cleaning and yard work.

    Program: Transportation
    Provides door-to-door services for seniors that are unable to drive. Enables seniors to access meals, perform daily errands, shop for groceries, attend medical appointments and pick up prescriptions.

    Program: San Juan County Nutrition Program
    Provides services to persons age 60 and over, emphasizing nutrition, education and socialization needs. Group meals are served one day a week.

    A year round mentoring program for Hispanic and American Indian middle and high school students who have two or more risk factors.
