Financial Information
IIn order to be completely transparent in its finances, and to be accountable to donors, United Way of Southwest Colorado is posting here its annual IRS Form 990 and Audit. This is the form that nonprofit organizations are required to send to the IRS each year. While nonprofit organizations do not pay taxes as a tax exempt organization, each is required to report to the IRS on its income and expenses annually. United Way of Southwest Colorado’s Form 990 is available for download for fiscal years 2006, 2005, 2004 and 2003. You can also download United Way’s 2006 audit, independently conducted by Clark White and Associates.

Finally, United Way of Southwest Colorado’s overhead rate for fiscal year 2006 was 12%. The 2007 audit and the calculation of the overhead rate for that fiscal year is currently underway and should be available by fall 2008. Past year’s overhead rates are:

2006 – 12%
2005 – 13%
2004 – 12%
2003 – 16%
2002 – 16%
2001 – 16%

United Way of Southwest Colorado takes very seriously its role as a steward of donations. United Way’s goal is to use resources as wisely as possible to be able to put a higher percent of donations to the great nonprofit organization we partner with every year. To that end, United Way of Southwest Colorado has created an endowment fund, the Linda Bolen Memorial Endowment Fund, which one day will cover all overhead expenses.
